Guests of Rotarians:

Dick Tucker introduced Bacchus Taylor with Explorations Academy

Zach von Schneidau brought Noah Mireauh with Brindle Ridge Construction
Presentations:
Ruth Steele from The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies (WWU) was introduced by Marty Haines. The Center has archived the Rotary historical documents (minutes, history, etc. 1917-2017). Ms. Steele thanked the Club for the materials. And we should thank the Center for caretaking them. She announced that there is an Open House for Rotary, January 23, 2020 at noon (only building at WWU that has free parking!). The catch is that there are only eight spaces…Here is the link to view our archives:  http://archiveswest.orbiscascade.org/ark:/80444/xv184844/

Then Marty presented $1000 Service Grant to Ruth as approved by Board. She had no idea that was coming. A good surprise.

Program:
Peter Theisen introduced Rebecca Murray - CEO of Skagit Media Marketing
Her topic this fine day was Retraining the Brain
Do you have stressful relationships and you sometimes you don’t like your reactions to people? You engage in your behavioral defaults? It’s not your fault. It’s your Limbic System not integrated well with your reasoning brain that’s causing these problems. There are two things you can do to retrain your brain-
1) Breathe. Tibetan monks have been using this technique to focus on being mindful – I guess is the new term.
2) Utilize the BRAIN acronym -

Breathe – Take slow deep breaths to relax your limbic system so you won’t fight or flight.
Recognize – your default reaction to stimulus
Allow – yourself to separate from your feelings
Investigate – what the stimulus is and why you react in such a way.
Nurture – retrain the response to stimuli.
