Cancer Support Community
Aug. 13, 2019 12:10 p.m.
Celebrating more than 25 years of providing support, education and hope to people fighting cancer, the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara is an independently governed and funded non-profit and an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community. We serve more than 2,300 adults, children and teens affected by cancer each year with programs throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and West San Fernando Valley. Programs are offered in English and Spanish and are all provided free of charge. We are dedicated to helping local residents with cancer and their loved ones enhance their health and well-being through professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and mind/body connection classes. In our Community, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope, regardless of the stage of their disease. Our mission is to ensure that adults, children, and teens impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and supported by the community. |

Thank you for your interest in the Concert of Songs Celebrating Mehregan. It will be a live performance presented by Edris Foroughi and his brother Veysroo and accompanist Sepehr Eghdami, along with the 16-member Ava Choir. Hosting this event will be our Rotarian Board member Marty Fadaei, a friend of many years of Edris and Veysroo and the catalyst for this concert. Mehregan is an ancient Iranian holiday celebrating the autumnal equinox, just as Now Ruz celebrates the vernal equinox. The concert also recognizes the contributions of Iranian-Americans to our society. |

The issue of homelessness in our veteran population
Nov. 05, 2019 12:10 p.m.
Mike has an interesting and compelling story to tell about his experiences as a Marine Corps reservist and later Marine Corps regular during the Vietnam War era. Mike faced challenges transitioning back to civilian life, which over time led to his seeking ways to support other veterans in their transition home. Through both his professional and volunteer life, Mike has focused his efforts on addressing the issue of homelessness in our veteran population. He's sought ways to assist them in preparing and returning to the workforce so they needn't resort to living on the streets.
Mike is the founder of Homeless Not Helpless, an organization for which I myself volunteered years ago. He is currently working to restart Homeless Not Helpless. They are looking to focus attention on the needs of homeless veterans and seek ways to better help them find both the services and employment they so deservedly (and desperately) need.

The Rotary Club of Calabasas will once again host its annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors at the Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas. In this, our 31st year hosting the event, we once again look forward to serving complete Thanksgiving dinner meals to over 600 senior citizens from around the San Fernando Valley. Along with Rotarians from Calabasas, Woodland Hills and elsewhere in the Valley, over 100 community and student volunteers will welcome and serve our honored guests. The Sagebrush Cantina has again generously offered to provide the use of its restaurant, and its staff will again contribute their time and skills to making the event possible. This event would not be possible without such generosity from our community.
