Corene Seaver was inducted into the Rotary Club of Bishop October 8, 2013.  Her sponsor is Captain Andria Witmer, California Highway Patrol.  Corene is a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor for the California Highway Patrol.

Corene has a B.A. in Management and Psychology from Charter Oaks State College and is ¾ complete in getting her M.A. in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy from California Southern University. She has lived in Bishop with her family for the past 10 years.  Both she and her husband, Richard Seaver, also a CHP Dispatch Supervisor wanted to live in a small town with all four seasons and jumped at the rare opportunity to work in Bishop at a small communications center.  Corene has worked with the CHP as a dispatcher/and/or supervisor for 17 years.

Her children, Jennah Seaver, age 19 and Joe Seaver, age 18 both graduated from Bishop Union High school and were Rotary scholarship recipients.  Corene enjoys the beautiful Sierra surrounding and has become a skilled cell phone photographer.

Corene said she was attracted to Rotary because “she is interested in community service without a religious or political association.  The quality of the members involved in Rotary guarantees an organized club and provides an opportunity to learn from the most experienced citizens of the community.  Rotary is a progressive organization utilizing social media and technology to reach out to an international membership and I hope to become more involved in all aspects of the club’s mission.”  Corene said she is ready to start working on the club’s service programs such as holiday projects, helping Wild Iris, Gardening and working in the club’s snack shack.

When asked what else is interesting about her, Corene said she is a US Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany for 2 years.  She worked as a mechanic and worked on Humvees and other trucks.  “I never had a job where I laughed and had more fun in my life.  Part of our mission was to support the Infantry as they trained the allied forces in combat maneuvers.  We often played the role as hostages or POWs as the Infantry trained in tactical procedures.  I traveled all over Europe during that tour of duty.  I’m Native American, from the Ojibwe tribe in Northern Wisconsin.”

President Maggie Kingsbury said the club welcomes and is honored to have Corene as a fellow Rotarian.
