Empowering Women to Thrive: Dawn Dietz and the Hoff Foundation Programs

In our meeting on October 24th, we were introduced to the commendable efforts of the Hoff Foundation through Dawn Dietz, who detailed the organization's commitment to aiding homeless women and their children. The Hoff Foundation operates under a 501(c)(3) status and runs three key programs: Esther’s Place, New Creation Communities Housing Program, and Queen for a New Day, each designed to provide crucial support and empowerment.
Esther’s Place: A Day Resource Center Dawn explained that Esther’s Place functions as a day resource center in Everett, open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, offering showers, clothes, hygiene products, and access to resource officers. It serves as a critical first step for women coping with homelessness due to traumatic circumstances. The center not only provides immediate physical resources but also connects women to long-term support services.
New Creation Communities: Transitional Housing The New Creation Communities Housing Program offers up to two years of housing for women who have maintained sobriety. This program focuses on reintroducing home living and includes job skills training and recovery programs. With a 98% success rate, the housing program is a testament to the foundation's effective support system.
Queen for a New Day: Transformation and Empowerment Queen for a New Day provides makeovers for women who have been clean for at least 30 days. This transformative program boosts confidence and job readiness, celebrating each woman's dignity and strength. Dawn shared that this program not only enhances their skills but also restores their hope and self-worth.
Community Impact and Partnerships With over 500 volunteers, the Hoff Foundation works closely with local nonprofits, community groups, and other agencies to provide comprehensive support. They focus on essentials such as food, hygiene supplies, and clothing, with an annual budget of $350,000. The housing element is largely self-sustaining, funded by program fees from the residents.
Broader Mission and Vision The Hoff Foundation's mission is to break the cycle of sex trafficking, abuse, addiction, and homelessness. By partnering with a broad network of community resources, including the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Program and various local organizations, the foundation offers a hand-up, not just a handout, paving the way for women to achieve self-sufficiency and live the life of their dreams.
Dawn’s presentation left us with a deep appreciation for the Hoff Foundation's impactful work and a better understanding of how we, as members of the community and the Rotary Club, can support their vital mission. The foundation’s multifaceted approach to addressing the complex needs of women in crisis exemplifies a model of compassionate and effective community service.
