Enriching Early Education: Arlington Education Foundation and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Founded in 2002 by three visionary Rotarian women, the Arlington Education Foundation has played a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing educational opportunities within the Arlington School District. Initially focusing on major projects like the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, the AEF has since shifted towards directly impacting classroom learning. Through fundraising events like Sip! Sip! Hooray! and Breakfast with Santa, along with various grants, AEF has raised over $1.3 million, significantly enriching the educational landscape. The foundation has also awarded over $110,000 in Classroom Mini Grants, supporting innovative teaching initiatives across the district.
In 2016, the AEF partnered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a revered book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of family income. Since its local inception, over 82,000 books have been distributed to 1,200 children in our community, underscoring the critical role of early education in developing the parent-child relationship and fostering a lifelong love for learning.
State funding has now been secured to match local efforts through 2025, ensuring the continuation of this vital program which has not only supported the literacy development of young learners but has also been recognized globally for its effectiveness and reach.
