What's the Fuss About the Bell?
To understand the fuss about the bell, you need to know our club's history.
Fifty years ago Rotary International (June 20, 1970), issued a new charter to a club in north Snohomish County. It was chartered as the Rotary Club of Marysville-North County. The first meeting was on April 6, 1970, in what was then the Turkey House and is now Denny's. Marysville had a club from 1929 to 1934, and the widow of the previous club's secretary still had the original bell in her basement. She gave it to the new club.

After the Marysville-North County Club changed its name and some of its members split off to form a new club in Marysville in 1985, the bell was given to the new Marysville Club. Since then the two clubs have had fun "exchanging" the bell, all in the name of fun!
At our 40th anniversary party, we "borrowed" the bell. Marysville Rotarian and Past District Governor Harv Jubie was a speaker at the event and the security of the bell was one of the topics.

To kick off our 50th year at this year's installation, Marysville's current President, Rick McCarthy, brought the bell to our event. But was he guarding it?

What do you know, at the end of the evening the Marysville bell was nowhere to be found. Not to let his club down, Rick showed up at our meeting on June 27 looking for the bell. But this time we let our guard down, because when the meeting was over not only did Rick not have Marysville's bell but our bell had vanished!
Since the 27th, each of the bells have made cameo appearances on social media. Rick has even given Arlington's bell a name--Bella.

Rick has offered a reward of a pallet of cereal to be donated to the food bank for the return of the bell. With this incentive, it is expected that Marysville may get its bell back at its meeting on July 10. Of course Bella will have to be returned and there must be a condition that the bell be made available for our 50th Anniversary Celebration!
