Skagit Regional Health: Expanding Access and Enhancing Care
In our August 22nd meeting, Brian Ivie, the President and CEO of Skagit Regional Health, provided an in-depth look into the expansive and evolving healthcare services they offer across Skagit, Snohomish, and Island counties. Skagit Regional Health operates under a unified mission to create a caring, connected healthcare system and currently manages two hospitals—Cascade Valley Hospital and Skagit Valley Hospital—along with 27 clinic locations that deliver comprehensive healthcare across nine communities.
Brian emphasized the organization's commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community through strategic expansions and enhancements. This includes a wide range of specialized medical services at various locations, such as Cancer Care, Dermatology, Family Medicine, and more advanced fields like Hyperbaric Medicine at the Cascade Valley Hospital Wound Care Center.
Significant developments have been made since 2016 under Brian's leadership, focusing on growth and the construction of facilities to improve access and the level of care provided. This includes the addition of 27 healthcare providers, the implementation of EPIC electronic medical records, and the introduction of advanced medical technology such as 3-D mammography and the CORI Surgical Robot.
Furthermore, Brian detailed the strategic operational shifts, such as the consolidation of Obstetrics Services to Skagit Valley Hospital due to low birth volumes and the lack of specialized providers in certain areas. This move aims to centralize and enhance maternity care while reallocating resources to expand essential medical and surgical services in the region.
