Previous Work Project at Fire Mountain

Spousal Membership:  The amended Member-at-large policy and amended dues are now available to view.

Survey re Activities: This from Simona and Jola:  In light of the continuing COVID-19 crisis and concerns for safety in gathering, we are trying to determine whether or not we should continue with typical activities. We would normally host our Christmas party the second Thursday evening in December, 12/9. We have not found a venue yet, but once we know a potential count, that will help us narrow down our options. Additionally, we know that many businesses will be required to follow the state mandates on masking and this could also have an effect on attendance. We appreciate everyone's opinion as it will help our planning. Finally, we believe members want to continue with Firesides, whether those are small groups or larger outdoor-like functions, being mindful of the weather (of course!). Please indicate your interest in the survey on continuing to have a fireside opportunity each month.

Thank you all for the work you do in supporting our community in these trying times. If you have ideas on how we could continue to nurture our social spirits and be safe, we would love to hear about those!

New Members:  We have recently inducted 7 new members.  One more new member will be inducted next Thursday.

Bulletin:  If you have photos to share, please send them to me.  We could also use some production help--story writers and/or editing.  ~Editor Dave

Programs:   Next week we are going to hear Julie Boyer with Nope Unlimited and Northwest Incident Support .  Dave K is our program chair.   IF YOU HAVE IDEAS FOR PROGRAMS--LET DAVE KNOW.

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month

As part of our support of basic education, our club has recognized students of the quarter from the middle and high schools in the Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington School Districts.  We also started and sponsor an Interact Club at Arlington High School.  Now that the kids are back to in person school, the Youth Services Committee hopes to reactivate these programs.   If interested in joining the Youth Services Committee, which also is responsible for our scholarship program, contact our Youth Services Director Jessica.

  Our Board and Committee

Board of Directors:    Next Board meeting will be Oct. 13.  All members are welcome to attend Board Meetings.  It is one of the tasks that a new member may get checked off in the Passport Booklet.

Membership:      It is every member's job to look for prospective members and invite them to a meeting!  Next scheduled committee meeting is Thursday, Oct 7, 11:00 AM at wherever the club is meeting for lunch, chaired by Membership Director Peggy.

Club Administration:  The Arlington Boys & Girls Club will be our meeting venue until we can go back to the Centennial, with food being provided by Cascade Valley Hospital food services.  There is an option to join the meeting via Zoom. Help is needed to clean-up and sanitize tables following the meeting.   If you have ideas for a fun social event, let Simona know.  She's thinking that we may have another Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner in the fall.  PLEASE RESPOND TO THE SURVEY THAT WAS SENT OUT--LINK ABOVE--REGARDING A CHRISTMAS PARTY!

Service:  On Oct. 16 a work party is being planned up at the Fire Mountain Scout Camp to start building a couple of staff cabins.  The next blood drive is Nov. 8.  We will need volunteers to work registration and to donate blood.  If you have ideas for projects, contact the Service Director Adrian or the Associate Director Ginny.

Classification Talk

Ilsa Chigbrow

Life Church 360--Community Outreach Director

Ilsa Chigbrow

A Classification talk by one of our members is always one of the most enjoyable programs.  Ilsa Chigbrow's talk was no exception.  Ilsa is the Community Outreach Director at Life Church 360.  She just recently rejoined our club.

Ilsa was born and raised on Vashon Island.  She graduated from Vashon High School in 1997, in a class of about 100.  About 80 of the graduating seniors had started school together in kindergarten.  After high school she attended the Gene Juarez Academy.  She married at age 23 and recently divorced,  Ilsa has 3 daughters, age 18, 17 and 13, and a 5 year old son.

This is Ilsa's second stint as Community Outreach Director for the church.  In addition, since 2010, when she started as a volunteer, she has been in various other positions with the church including nursery coordinator, janitor, office manager, MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) and womans' coordinator.  She serves on the church's board of directors.  Outside of the church, she has also been a store manager, interior design consultant, luxury yacht builder,  and a professional home organizer.  She has also refurbished furniture. Currently, in addition to her work at the church, she is working on obtaining her real estate license.

Ilsa's parents still live on a 10 acre farm on Vashon Island.  Growing up in a place only accessible by ferry which is only 14 miles long and 7 miles wide,  was different than what most kids experience.  As an adult, she appreciates the quiet a lot more.  As a kid it was the worst remote place ever.  The one movie theater showed moves weeks after they were released.

Connecting with people at a personal level seems to be Ilsa's passion.  Friendships are of high value to Ilsa and she told us more about the leadership she provided to women groups and MOPS.  Like other programs that are offered on Zoom,  Ilsa's presentation was recorded and it includes more about her children.   Unfortunately there was a technical issue in recording the program and the power point slides did not advance.  The video is on our YouTube Channel.  Click HERE for a link.
