Snohomish County Transportation Coalition

Our first meeting in September's program was all about the Snohomish County Transportation Coalition, know as SNOTRAC.  The presenter was its Executive Director, Brock Howell.  Brock has a law degree but has spent most of his career in the transportation field.

The Coalition is funded with a consolidated federal grant through the Washington State Department of Transportation, with local matches and some contributions.  Here is a list of some of the agencies in the coalition:

The Coalition is all about putting people first with quality, efficiency and those with mobility or special needs.  Recently it worked with another coalition known as the North Counties Transportation Coalition.  It did a survey that was heavy in the Stanwood and Camano Island areas, since a couple of the prime members of that group are the Stanwood Community and Senior Center and the Camano Center.  For purposes of the survey the area was divided into subareas.  Here is a map showing the areas.

The survey revealed that more of those surveyed felt that accessibility to Everett and Seattle needs improvement.  He provided lots of graphs.  Initiatives include facilitating info sharing between transportation providers, better identification of gaps, and use of more sub-coalition groups.  Of course, funding transportation needs is always a challenge.
