Navigating "Crisis" with Purpose: Dr. Devin Brossard Presents Symmetry Oasis
Devin discussed the transformative power of engaging in activities that significantly reduce cortisol levels—crying, laughing, and working out. By emphasizing wellness over mere survival, he drew a compelling contrast between traditional medical approaches, which often focus on preventing death, and chiropractic's focus on promoting life, citing Dr. B.J. Palmer: "Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live."
In his presentation, Devin highlighted how the brain's capability to produce enough electricity to power an incandescent light bulb is enhanced by maintaining an elevated heart rate for 90-120 minutes per week. This simple but effective strategy is pivotal in combating the root causes of many diseases.

Addressing the typical responses to mid-life crises, such as divorce, affairs, purchasing sports cars, career changes, weight gain, gambling, and substance abuse, Devin introduced the "4 T's" as healthier alternatives:
- Thoughts: Cultivating a positive mindset.
- Trauma: Addressing past and present emotional and physical trauma.
- Toxins: Eliminating harmful substances from the environment.
- Technology: Balancing technology use to enhance rather than detract from quality of life.
He also described the therapeutic environment of Symmetry Oasis, featuring a mile-long driveway through the jungle, where he experienced a profound moment of clarity and breath since the pandemic began. This setting underscores the project's aim to foster a "Parasympathetic" or "Christ mode," a state of peace and rejuvenation, as opposed to being in constant "Sympathetic" or crisis mode.
Devin’s journey from "Fog to Fire," also the title of his book, reflects his deep dive into mental health, which he redefines not as a disease but as a manageable chemical imbalance within our neural anatomy.
His presentation not only provided a fresh perspective on managing mid-life changes but also encouraged our members to think about how they can proactively engage in transforming their challenges into opportunities for growth and community service.
