Ndengelwa Sustainable Water Project

The chair of our club's Rotary Foundation Committee international services subcommittee, Barney Petersen, gave us an update on the project.  It is a project started by Joan Tilton, and he is happy that it is progressing nicely.  We are partnering with the Rotary Club of Bungoma.  A recent site visit involved Rotarians from that club, our representative John Simiyu, and representatives from the St Thaddeus Ndengelwa Secondary School.

The following progress was observed during the site visit:
•    The pipeline from the borehole to the water tank has been successfully laid.
•    A reinforced concrete foundation has been constructed at the designated site where the water storage tank will be installed.
•    The distribution pipeline has been laid, with the furthest point extending several hundred meters beyond Muyayi Market and offshoots/diversions branching off at various junctions.
•    The communication pipe — which transports water from the main distribution line to the various endpoints where customers can connect their service lines — has also been laid.

Next Phase:
According to the project consultant’s work plan, the next phase involves installing solar panels to power the pumps that draw water from the borehole and distribute it through the pipeline network.

Conclusions and Recommendations:
•    The subsequent phase(s) of the project should commence promptly. Where feasible, phases may run concurrently to ensure the implementation timeline remains on schedule.
•    Partial payments for works completed to date should be processed and remitted to the contractor in accordance with the agreed payment schedule.
