Holiday Service Projects

They're a Wrap!

Wow — have our members been busy the last 14 days!  It started on December 5, when our club partnered with the local firefighters to canvas the GlenEagle neighborhood for its annual food drive benefiting the Arlington Community Food Bank.  We had two shifts: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Here is a Rotarian and Fire Chief's report on the club members' efforts:

Hello all, last night the weather presented some challenges, it POURED at times! Though it seemed quieter than previous years, our numbers were really good. Last night, we collected 2,495 pounds of food, all of which was delivered to the Food Bank this morning. In 2024, we collected 2,523 pounds; we were only off 28 pounds. Thank you to all who came out and stood up to Mother Nature. …Thank you, Katy & DJ, for donning the Duck Dash Splishy & Splashy costumes one last time.

At our club meeting on December 11, after we heard from Rotarian and co-president of A Christmas Wish, Kim Deisher-Allen, we moved to the Boys and Girls Club gym. We assisted with the distribution setup for families on Friday, December 12.

Ready for No Cost Family Shopping!

The following week was hectic.  On December 15, our club members volunteered to help distribute food boxes as financially challenged families drove through the pickup line at the Arlington Community Food Bank. About 200 families were served!

One of Two Crews

In lieu of our regular meeting on December 18, we partnered with Salt of the Earth Food Blessings for the first time to provide a hot meal for about 80 individuals at the Smokey Point Community Church.

We finished the week on December 19 by serving a holiday meal to seniors at the Stilly Valley Center.

Thank you to all members of our club who took time out of their busy schedules to show the community that Rotarians are “PEOPLE OF ACTION”  who follow the Rotary Motto, “SERVICE ABOVE SELF.”
