Creativity and Care at Leeside Manor: The Silver Eagle Project
This week, Mark Lee from Leeside Manor shared the evolution of the Silver Eagle Project, which has become a great tool for engagement in senior care. Leeside Manor, with its 6,500 square foot house and a 1,800 square foot workshop, offers a variety of programs from respite stays to long-term care, focusing on enriching the lives of seniors through creative endeavors.
The highlight of Mark’s talk was the Silver Eagle Project where seniors have successfully assembled various aircraft, including the notable RV12, a blue and white plane that symbolizes the project's success. This initiative not only brings joy and a sense of accomplishment to the participants but also fosters strong community connections. Located in an area renowned for its aviation history, the project allows seniors to contribute actively and meaningfully to a legacy of aircraft building.
Mark detailed the Manor’s day program activities which range from music and field trips to boat building and car restoration, each designed to keep seniors active and engaged. He also highlighted the challenges of senior care, particularly the costs associated with out-of-home care and the limitations of in-home nursing services.
