The Oso Slide 10 years ago prompted the community to look at what resources were available for displaced families. This inspired the opening of the Arlington Community Resource Center. Marlydann Dugger, Site Director, was the speaker at our club on April 18. In 2020, The Center became a program of the Volunteers of America Western WA Chapter to expand their resources. The VOAWW Arlington Community Resource Center is a one-stop-hub for families and individuals in crisis and/or struggling to meet basic needs.
The Arlington Resource Center provides help with basic clothing, food, hygiene and other personal items. More importantly, they provide case management to connect individuals with employment, financial assistance for rent and utilities, assistance available from WA State DSHS and they host community events as well. They have a laundry partnership with Suds and Duds two days a week and also provide outreach services at the Smokey Point Library on Thursday afternoon. They have intensive case management for supportive housing and employment and manager cold weather sheltering for Arlington by providing motel vouchers. They hope to add showering facilities for un-homed people in May.
The Center can always use in-kind donations of gently used clothing, food and personal hygiene items. They are located at 103 E. 3rd Street, Suite 201. They are open Monday-Thursday 9am-4pm (closed 12-1 for lunch).
