Christmas Food Baskets

Although providing food for financially challenged families has been an annual tradition of our club, the process has changed dramatically since the Arlington Community Foodbank has gone to a market model.  Here are some photos from years past:

Years Past

Before 2017, we were given a list of families from the foodbank with what should be in each basket.  We would buy the food locally, haul it to places such as the gym at the church, the soccer dome and boys and girl's club, where we would pack the boxes and deliver them to to the families.  Since Carla Rankin, a member of our club has been the director at the Arlington Community Foodbank, we have met there for lunch, and to pack and deliver boxes of food. This year was different since the foodbank has gone to a market model.

Rotarians and guests placed boxes in shopping carts and proceeded to walk the aisle of the market where shelves were marked with the number of the items that were placed in boxes.  Rotarians were encouraged to contribute $75 a box to help the foodbank stock the shelves.  If you would like to contribute, you can make the contribution online directly with the foodbank, or a check may be given to our treasurer Cindy.  To be tax deductible, the contribution should be either directly to the foodbank or to the Arlington Rotary Foundation.  Click HERE for a link to contribute directly to the Arlington Community Foodbank.

Photos from this year's project are in a album that you can view.  Here are a few of those photos:
