Benjamin Nuss, Lakewood High School, was the Football Team Captain and Offensive MVP. He also participated in track, wrestling and soccer and was the ASB Activities Coordinator his senior year. He has been a crew lead for his family’s landscaping and snow removal business since he was 16. He volunteered at his church, Eden Acres Food Program, ASL Camp and as a member of the Cougar Crew. He plans to attend George Fox University. Benjamin's parents joined us to accept his award while he was at a graduation practice. 

Ella Larson, Arlington High School, maintained a 4.0 GPA through all semesters and was recognized by the American Association of University Women for Achievement in Science. She played on the girls fastpitch team for three years and was a member of the National Honor Society. She works at Hazel Blue Acres and also as a dog sitter. Her volunteer activities include scorekeeper for the basketball tournament games, Arlington Food Bank, elementary classroom aide, assisting with yard work and running Powerpoint at her church, a peer tutor, Centennial Trail clean up, Santa Breakfast and Salmon Barbecue. She will attend Washington State University in the fall.

Jamie Kinney, Arlington High School, maintained a 4.0 GPA and was on the President’s List at Everett Community College and the Honor Roll. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Jamie lettered in volleyball as Co-Captain and also participated in track and field. She interned at Youth Dynamics and works at Hubbs Pizza & Pasta as a server. Her volunteer activities include the Santa Breakfast and Christmas box distribution, assisting in kids’ church, tutoring, stocking shelves at the Food Bank and assisting with Trunk or Treat and the Pancake Breakfast. Jamie will attend Northern Arizona University with a major in Computer Engineering.

Carter Sweeney, Arlington High School, received an Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA and was Swimmer of the Month as a member of the swimming team. He volunteered at the Everett Boys and Girls Club and sorting items for Mary’s Place in Seattle. Carter is autistic and finds that swimming helps him ward off depression. His science teacher noted that he is a hard worker with a strength in math and science. He will attend Central Washington University, where he plans to focus on business and math.

 

Cadynce Knudson, Arlington High School, was on the Honor Roll all four years for maintaining a 3.5+ GPA. She wasTteam Captain for the Varsity Volleyball Team, Link Crew Leader and participated in Leadership Summit. She works at Stilly Auto Parts and referees middle school volleyball. She has volunteered at Volleyball Kids Camp, the Arlington Boys and Girls Club and prepared lunches for a community outreach program. She plans to study nursing at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.

Isaac Leighton, Arlington High School, lettered in Varsity Chess and served as Chess Club President. An Eagle Scout, he was a Senior Patrol Leader and Chaplin’s Aide with the Boy Scouts. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Robotics Club. He has worked at Snohomish County Parks and Kafe Neo.  In addition to scouting, his volunteering includes a church mission trip to Senegal to support a health clinic, assisting disabled athletes for Unified Sports and serving dinner to adults with disabilities.  Isaac will study nursing at Eastern Washington University.

 

Noah Starup, Arlington High School, has varsity letters in golf and lacrosse and was Ice Hockey Team Captain and has refereed youth hockey. He has worked at the Holiday Ice Rink, Gleneagle Golf Course and BC Construction, building fences and decks. He volunteers at community events with Youth Dynamics and is a volunteer youth hockey coach. He has been in the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center Fire Science program for two years, serving as a company officer last year.  He has played on select hockey teams since the age of eight.  He plans to attend Skagit Valley Community College with aspirations to be a firefighter.

Genalynn Beazer, Darrington High School, has been honored for outstanding classroom achievements as an Arlington Rotary Outstanding Student and Darrington High School Academic Excellent Award recipient. She has also been recognized for her leadership and writing skills. She has served as Vice President of the Associated Student Body and President of the National Honor Society. She works at the Burger Barn and as a dog sitter. Her community service includes volunteering for Darrington Food Bank, Glacier Peak Institute, Darrington Historical Society and assisting neighbor kids to and from school daily. She attended Running Start college courses while still in high school. She earned the title of Salutatorian. Gena plays varsity volleyball, basketball and fastpitch. She has worked at the student store. She plans to attend Baylor University.

Kaison Parks, Lakewood High School, has been on the Honor Roll since 9th grade. He was the Varsity Soccer Team Captain and also played varsity basketball and tennis. He is a member of the National Honor Society, on the yearbook staff, and worked at the LHS Summer Soccer Camp coaching kids how to develop soccer skills. He works at Flourish Organic Farms and PRS Mechanical. His volunteer activities include community clean up with his church group, Assistant coach for AAU Girls Basketball and working at the Arlington Food Bank. He plans to attend Whitworth College.

Landon Howe, Lakewood High School, has been on the Honor Roll since 9th grade. He has Varsity Letters in Cross Country, Track & Field and Cheer. He has been named student of the quarter in science and history. He is NCA ranked and was awarded as an All American Cheerleader, while also participating in the jazz band and choir. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Cougar Crew and served as Senior Class President. His volunteer activities include leading Vacation Bible School small groups, helping at school and youth sporting events, assisting at track camp and on National Honor Society community and school projects. He will attend the University of Washington majoring in business and leadership, and has been invited to try out for the cheer squad.

Madison Griffith, Arlington High School, has been on the Honor Roll since 9th grade. She was both the Cross Country and Track Team Captain, a member of the National Honor Society and the Arlington Council for Education. She works at Famous Footwear.  She has volunteered at 3-on-3 tournaments, tutoring a first grader, picking up trash on trails, letter writing and making blankets for people in need. She plans to major in education at either Washington State University or the University of Portland.

Ryan Duncan, Lakewood High School, has been on the Honor Roll since 9th grade and has been recognized by the Lakewood School District Board for outstanding performance as a peer tutor in math. He lettered in Varsity Baseball, JV Wrestling, Varsity Tennis, and served as ASB Treasurer. He works at the Stillaguamish Athletic Club and has been an independent tutor helping a 7th grader with math twice a week for six months. His volunteer service includes serving meals to Lakewood Families for the Marysville Food Bank, as a dog walker at NOAH Pet Adoption Center, mentoring a 4th gradier and assisting kids with special needs play basketball. He plans to attend Western Washington University.

Sophie Klingman, Lakewood High School, has been on the Honor Roll three years and helped teach upcoming soccer players how to improve their skills and worked on promoting school community events. She works at Old Navy. Following a car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury, she switched to half days at school as she dealt with constant headaches, memory loss and medical appointments. She has been working with a neurologist, learning how the brain works. This has inspired her to go into sociology to study the brain and human behavior. She plans to attend Washington State University to major in sociology, with a minor in working with at risk youth.

Rubi Teran-Jacobo, Lakewood High School, received extra credits in the World Language Competency Assessment for Spanish. She was the Volleyball Team Manager, on the Cougar Crew and an Edgenuity Peer Tutor.  She has worked as a receptionist at a beauty salon and in retail for two years at American Eagle and Target. She volunteered at Helping Hands for 100 hours. She plans to attend Evergreen Beauty College to become a cosmetologist.
