Homage Senior Services

Christine Vervitsiotis

Christine Vervitsiotis is the manager of the Mental Health and Wellness Program at Homage.  Homage was earlier Senior Services of Snohomish County. Although Christine is the manager of one department, her presentation was about all the services offered by Homage.
The non-profit has been serving Snohomish County residents for over 47 years.  Its mission is to promote independence, preserving dignity, and enhancing the quality of life for older adults and people with disabilities.  It meets people where they are, over the phone, in their home and in the community.  Its offices are located in Lynnwood.  Two of its more visible programs are in the area of nutrition and transportation.  It provides meals to home bound adults with its Meals on Wheels program.  It also provides congregate meals through senior centers, including the Stilly Valley Center,  It also provides transportation through an assistance program or if an individual has a friend that will provide transportation, it can pay that friend,

Social Services provided by Homage include a Caregiver Support Program, a connection and referral service, Medicaid pre-screening, application assistance and case management for Medicaid Transformation, and as an elder abuse advocate.  It also has certified advisors to help with Medicare supplement plans and enrollment assistance.

Another service is minor home repair needed for safety.  There is a waiting list and it is available for low income homeowners.  Christine recommended applying before services are needed to avoid a wait to determine eligibility.

Mental health services are available through an access line that connects those 60 years of age or older with an assessment and assistance program, including depression screening and counseling.  It offers a number or workshops on topics such as coping with stress, healthy relationships and holiday blues.  There a number of support groups.

There are many volunteer opportunities, including drivers, food packagers, peer counselors, and those skilled at doing repairs.  For more information click HERE to visit Homage's website.
