At Last--An In Person Celebration!

Since our club's Christmas Party on December 12, 2019, we have not been able to have an evening in person celebration of Rotarians and guests.  There was joy all around last Friday evening as we joined at the Community Hall at 7 Lakes to honor our outgoing officers and directors, install our new slate of officers and directors, and to recognize three special community members for their service to the community.

Club Administrator Director Jola Barnett was our mistress of ceremonies.  She and her committee planned and organized the evening that included a nice buffet catered by the Centennial Bar and Grill.

President Bryce Duskin (2020-21), recognized those officers and directors who served during his year: President Elect-Devin Brossard, Vice President-Joe Klein, Treasurer-Cindy Huleatt, Secretary-Jenie Jones, Past President-Simona DeVries, Directors: Membership-Peggy Ray (Tony Warner), Administration-Jola Barnett, Projects-Jim Kelly, Community Funding-Eric Scott, Public Relations-AJ Chippendale,  Youth Services-Jessica Ronhaar, & Foundation-Mel Simpson (John Peeters). In addition he recognized Steffen Emard-Program Chair, Jen Rancourt-Scholarship Selection Chair, Paul Abramowicz-technical support, Duane Rhodes-Area J AG, and Dave Duskin-ClubRunner Administrator. For exceptional service in their positions during the pandemic, President Bryce presented Paul Harris Fellowship Awards to Jola Barnett (her 4th) and Jim Kelly (his 1st).

In addition to the above recognitions, President Bryce presented a Paul Harris Fellowship Award to one of our newest members, Madhu Gadde.  She has been a shining example of all of the qualities of all Rotarians, especially when it came to service, all with a great empathy and gratitude.

Cindy Huleatt presented the award to Caryn Brown.  As a breast cancer survivor, Caryn has led efforts to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.  In addition to helping organize Arlington's Relay for Life, she has partnered with her basketball coach Nick Brown to spearhead the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event at Arlington High School.  When the pandemic interfered with an in person event at the game this season, she convinced the Dick's Drive-In to bring its food truck to Arlington to raise funds.

Mary Levesque had her Paul Harris presented to her by Devin Brossard.  Even before being elected to the Arlington School Board, she was an active parent volunteer with PTA and Arlington Education Foundation, and she works hard to keep parents and the community informed about school affairs.  She also volunteered during the pandemic at many of the vaccination sessions at the Arlington Airport.

The last community Paul Harris Fellowship Award was presented by Steffen Emard to Sarah Higginbotham.  Sarah saw a need to help the homeless in north Snohomish County. She established a non-profit, North Snohomish County Outreach.  Volunteers provide a hot meal to homeless individuals while having their laundry washed. NSCO also coordinates cold winter shelter and showers for the homeless.

When all the formalities ended, the Jimmy Wright Band provided dancing music for all who joined us at our annual installation event.  A special thank-you to Jola and her committee for putting together a great event!
