Village Community Services

Leadership Snohomish County Project!

One of our members, Mel Simpson, is participating in the Leadership Snohomish County program.  It is non profit program geared toward persons seeking to build and expand their leadership skills.  The culmination of the 9 month "Signature Program" is a team community impact project.  Mel's team has chosen supporting Village Community Services' Arbor Day project.  She is looking to our Rotary Club for help with the project.

At our meeting on March 18, we had a presentation from Village Community Services (VCS) on its fundraising effort. VCS is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to help people with developmental disabilities to be active in their community by providing education, employment and many other opportunities for their clients through the programs they offer. This particular fundraiser will provide assistance to clients to take classes that will help further their independence.  Village Community Services needs community support to continue its efforts to aid our community members with disabilities and to continue to do the great work they have been doing for many years.

The goal for this fundraiser is to grow people, grow trees, and grow community by  accepting donations from our community members for a tree that will be delivered on Earth Day, in  hopes that they will be planted on Arbor Day. Donors may also donate the tree and our clients will gain  experience and knowledge by planting them in various communities.

Funds are raised in a number of fashions.  VCS looks to attract corporate or business sponsors.  Trees have been donated so another way it raises funds is the sale of trees for planting where ever the buyers wishes to plant them or to have them planted as a group effort.  Trees may be delivered to your home or they be donated for the group effort. Our club may be helping with the planting.  The donations help pay for one of VCS clients to attend a class.  Here are the donation levels:

$30 - Class for an individual & a tree to plant; $100 - Class for 3 individuals & four trees to plant; $300 - Total cost of single class & ten trees to plant.

Every donor will be entered into drawing for a chance to win: ~A night out at Angel of the Winds Casino
