Tree Planting Project

Mel Simpson Plants One of the First Trees

It was really three projects in one (or maybe even 4)!  Our member Mel Simpson, as a participant in Leadership Snohomish County, needed a project to culminate the 9 month leadership development program.  She chose as her project raising funds for an Arlington based non-profit, Village Community Services.  In particular, a fundraiser for the Victoria Village Learning Center involving tree sales for Arbor Day 2021.
On March 18 we had as a program Carson Fenwick, who spoke about Village Community Services. To see the previous story click HERE. A video of the program is also on our YouTube Channel.  To view video, click HERE.

To provide financial support for Victoria Community Services, our club purchased $10,000 in trees.  Although Arbor Day was on April 30, on Saturday, May 1, 128 native trees were planted in the City of Arlington's wetland storm drainage area at the northwest corners of SR 530 and SR 9, west of Haller Park.   An added benefit was that Cub Scouts from Pack 29 were able to help plant trees, an advancement requirement.

There is a photo album with photos of the tree planting event.  Here are a few of photos from that album:
