Opportunity for Arlington Rotarians to help a worthy organization and also help rehabilitate a Native Growth Protection Area. Arlington Rotary purchased $1,000 worth of Japanese Maple trees from the Village Experience Learning Center Arbor Day fund raiser; we will be planting these trees in Arlington's Stormwater Wetland Park on May 1, 2021. This planting will support the restoration of a Native Growth Protection area in the park. Once all of the trees are planted, we will have Rotarian work parties start clean-up and removal of invasive species from other areas of the Native Growth Protection Area, this work is being done in preparation for future restoration and tree planting events. NOTE - The Village Experience Learning Center has been providing quality residential support and vocational services to adults with disabilities for more than 50 years in Snohomish, Island and Skagit counties with learning opportunities for individualized and group training in work readiness, independent living and hard and soft job skills. |

Planning meeting for the event on 6/11. The venue does not have anything other than tables/chairs. We will need to have people to help set up and take down. This will be a bit of old-style like when we had our events at Lee's airplane hangar. I look forward to seeing the committee members to help plan this festive event! I'll have some light appetizers to snack on while we plan. Jola |

In 1985 Rotary International launched PolioPlus, the first and largest internationally coordinated private-sector support of a public health initiative, with an initial fundraising target of US$120 million, to eradicate polio world wide. Last year the continent of Afrcia was declared polio free. In 2021 there have only been 2 cases reported of wild polio--one in Afganistan and one in Pakistan, both in January. Since the project was started, each year on October 24, Rotary celebrates World Polio Day in a effort to keep the project on the top of all of our minds. Many clubs have fund raising efforts on that day. To see what clubs are doing world wide click HERE. |
