Oso Mudslide Memorial and Monument
Dec. 27, 2018
Shortly following the March 22, 2014 mudslide, discussions began circulating about creation of a memorial to commemorate the Oso mudslide. The intent of the memorial was to remember the lives of the 43 individuals who lost their lives, recognize the unprecedented response effort that followed the event, honor the community that was lost and provide information about the slide itself. |

Bikers Against Child Abuse
Feb. 14, 2019
On Thursday, February 14th, the local organization chapter Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) North Sound Chapter will be giving an informative presentation of their organization and what they are all about. Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. They exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. They stand ready to lend support to their wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. They work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. They desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of theirorganization, and that they are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and their physical presence. They stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. They do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that they are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, they stand ready to be that obstacle.

Hope Unlimited
Feb. 28, 2019
Join us on February 28th as Norma Mouton, director of Hope Unlimited, gives a presentation on her organization and what it is all about. In 1998, Ralph and LeAnn Fry, along with six friends, formed Hope Unlimited with the purpose of helping people in need of comfort, encouragement, and hope. Their first project was to come alongside couples who were needing to replenish the vitality in their relationships and marriages. Soon after moving to North Snohomish County, Ralph and LeAnn felt a need to actively support their community by putting Ralph's training as a fire and police chaplain to immediate use. In 2004, the leadership board of Hope Unlimited responded to the need for an emergency response chaplaincy. In 2005, Stanwood Camano Incident Support (SCIS) was established. Today, it has grown to include many Snohomish County communities and is now known as Northwest Incident Support (NWIS). In 2013, the mission of Hope Unlimited expanded to reach the growing demographic of single-parent families. A new outreach, Single Family Life, became a reality. Dozens of parents have received encouragement and training to ensure a healthy family dynamic. |

Apr. 12, 2019 - Apr. 14, 2019
This year's District Conference is in our own back yard! It gives our members the luxury of attending all or just portions of the conference without a long drive. The conference officially starts on April 12, however, there are some Thursday events that are still open including HIBUB Culteral Tour and a Rotary Trivia Dinner at Shawn O"Donnell's. There is limited space on both. HOME DINNER HOSTING: Members of our club are being asked to host visiting Rotarians in their home for a dinner on Friday, April 12. It's listed as a separate event and has a link to the form to volunteer to host. DAVE IS THE CHAIR OF HOME HOSTING AND HE IS ASKING FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION--PLEASE! There is a registration option that includes just the Saturday night dinner and Carribean themed party and Sunday breakfast. There are discount rooms available at the resort by calling 360-716-6000, and telling them that it is for the Rotary Conference. All registrations have to be through the District site. Obviously the Early Bird fee has passed but the $345 rate goes to $375 on March 15. To see more and to register through the District site, click on REGISTRATION |

Workforce Snohomish County
Apr. 25, 2019
Since its inception, Workforce Snohomish has underpinned the county’s economic foundation by strengthening local businesses, supporting workers, and assisting unemployed residents to find gainful employment. We ensure people have the opportunity to thrive and engage in a vibrant community. As one of the 12 Workforce Development Councils in Washington State, Workforce Snohomish receives federal and private funding to oversee and operate the two WorkSource Centers in the county, located in Everett and Lynnwood. The WorkSource Centers are part of the nationwide American Job Center system offering free services such as: unemployment insurance information; employment related workshops; job fairs and on-site recruiting events; and links to educational and training opportunities. Workforce Snohomish continually seeks out partners to provide services in the WorkSource Centers, ensuring the most comprehensive system possible for county residents. Recognizing that individuals with barriers often need more in-depth support than can be offered at the WorkSource Centers, Workforce Snohomish has developed and implemented direct employment programs to assist those with challenges become financially independent. |

Apr. 27, 2019 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Rotarians At Work Day happens on the last Saturday in April each year. Started in 2006 as a joint effort between two Rotary Districts (one in the United States and one in Mexico), Rotarians at Work Day continues to grow. Each year, Clubs around the world identify a hands-on project that all members can participate in to help their local community. The day is a great way for our Club to show Rotary’s commitment to the community with work, fellowship, and fun. This year the Arlington, Stanwood and Lake Stevens clubs will be working on Whitehorse Trail/Oso Slide removing noxious weeds (blackberry bushes, butterfly bush, scotchbroom, etc.), our work area will be along the Whitehorse Trail near C-Post Road on the East side of the Oso Memorial area. |

Our last meeting in May will be on traditional Memorial Day--May 30 (from 1868 to 1970). It is a day to remember American soldiers who have died in the military service. Our speaker that day will be Doug Jones. Doug is currently a member of the LaConner Rotary Club. While a member of the Lynnwood Rotary Club he attended our Charter night 49 years ago. After he moved to Darrington, where he owned Darrington Hardware, he was an active member in our club. He has regularly come to our club to sell tulips and we will probably see him at our meeting before the 30th of May. As part of his program that he has given on several locations, he would like to recognize those in attendance who have served, expecially the war veterans. Our own Bud Compton, a POW in WWll, who just turned 94, says he will make a point of being present. If you have served, please accept this invite. All of you are encouraged to invite family or friends who have served and who you would like to have honored. Please register them as a guest so we know a good number for lunch. |
