FOOD BANK – DID YOU KNOW………

PACS Food Bank originated in 1984 to initially provide support to the unemployed in White Rock and South Surrey. The continued food bank operations currently serve 2 % of this community's population (approximately 450 people per week and almost 1400 per year; 1/3 are children) . Food Bank Recipients are community members living on a low income - a diverse group that includes working poor, unemployed, single parents, seniors, students, "the homeless" and those with physical or mental challenges.

The Food Bank provides at least 2 days of food per week to each person registered. Children's Lunch Program distributes for school –aged children additional supplementary lunch items (fresh milk, 100% fruit juice, tuna or salmon, fresh fruit and 100% fruit leather or canned fruit) while the Preschool Snack Program supplies younger children with healthy snacks (100% fruit juice and 100% fruit leather or canned fruit). The Baby Program offers formula, baby food, diapers and other items. The on- site Food Bank Garden- small yet prolific- increases fresh healthy produce distributed during growing season.

The Food Bank's on -site free store provides clients with clothing and small household and personal items. Shower and laundry facilities are available for "the homeless" and others who do not have access to those facilities elsewhere.

PACS Food Bank relies entirely on the support of its community. 76 volunteers donate their time and energy to work with 3 part time staff on an ongoing basis to operate this service which is sustained by the monetary and food donations from other community members. Monetary donations allow the Food Bank to buy "More for Less", and " What we need, when we need it", without the problems of expiry dates and storage. The donor receives a tax - deductible receipt.

Please note: PACS Food Bank does not solicit (neither by phone nor" door to door"). If you wish to donate to your local Food Bank, please consider a " DIRECT DONATION "(by mail or in person)
