Guests today were our 2 Speakers Natasha MacDonald and Denise Trottier
 
Krista Burnham is celebrating a birthday this week.
And David Woollven has an Anniversary with Rotary.
 
President Ian is in Equador on the International project, so PP Mike was acting President today.  Mike reminded us to please use our THRIFTY'S SMILE COMMUNITY CARDS.  All you have to do is load it up, prior to your purchases and 5% of the money you spend goes to sending kids to our KIDS CAMP and Camp Jubilee.  If you don't have a Community card yet, please let us know and we will be sure to get you one.
 
It was good to see Isy at Rotary today, and she talked about the trip to KIDS CAMP and how much fun the kids were having.
 
Alan talked about our upcoming event - RIBFEST .....1 week away....
 
Our speaker’s this morning were Natasha Mac Donald and Denise Trottier from “The Birds Nest”.
This group helps boys 19-25 years of age from ” Montreal Lake Cree Nation” and other Native Reserves to attend a “Pre College Program” to learn skills to go to College and University in their future. This special program currently has 11 Boys and is housed and looked after by these 2 ladies.
This program has been doing a special hockey program, to get the boys to learn teamwork, and improve their grade skills to get into College and pass in the programs to get a career in the future.
These boys are now getting into College and learning leadership skills.
There hockey team is called “ The Band of Brothers”.
The program is located in Ridge Meadows.
One boy has already started a 2 year program at the “ University of the Fraser Valley”.
Currently they have limited Band Funding and some money from the Anglican Church.
 
Our Years moto is “Be an Inspiration” these 2 ladies are showing us this in all they are doing for these 11 Boys.
 
*****ROTARY SUMMER OF SHARING******.....
 
Karen Rockwell brought a 'small' but very significant project to our Club.  She reminded us that 'Hunger doesn't take a holiday'.
Please bring a 'non-perishable' item to Rotary each week this summer and we  will present it to SHARE at the end of August.  Just one item a week.....Pretty easy....and if you forget, we will always take cash.
