Yes we are having a ball....glad we decided to come to Turkey...people are friendly and all seems pretty safe as far as we can tell.
Spent today at Ephesus...very hard not to be impressed by the magnitude of what the ancients did!...the marble is spectacular and the scale huge.
After spending several days in Istanbul....a city I really like. Lots of tourist activity to be sure but the mix of Asia and Europe is interesting. They really think of themselves as the original melting pot...and in spite of being a Muslim country generally seem very tolerant. Its really the layers that make Istanbul so special...each side street is an adventure..packed with tiny shops and tea houses. Would have been fun to catch up with Al there but not to be...and now I hear that he has canceled his trip...such a shame!

We chose to do a cooking tour...food always seems like a great way to understand the people and the history and is more vibrant than a simple history lesson of the area. Great fun...and good food too!...reminds me a bit of Morocco.

We decide to rent a car...another adventure....some of the roads are super narrow and drivers don't seem to care about rules or simply don't follow them. But having said that the highways are outstanding..better than ours to tell you the truth.

Tomorrow we head for Kas on the Aegean coast where will spend a week touring around Fethiye before driving back to Izmir t drop the car off and fly to Capodoccia for 5 days. That will be fabulous..staying in the Kelebeck Cave Hotel...Mike's suggestion....should check it out on line -:).

For fun attached a few photos of the day...say hi to everyone!

Cheers,

Ian.
