Guest speaker today was Karen Tyrell who is well known as a Dementia Consultant, Educator, Speaker and Author on Dementia. Karen spoke to us about her 20 years of frontline service and her passion for working with patients and their families to help understand the disease and some hints/clues on avoiding confrontation. Her first Dementia Tip was: “we can’t change them. We have to be the ones who change”. And the corollary: would you rather be right or be at peace? Karen writes a monthly newsletter for the CARP national Website each month called “Dear Dementia Solutions” answering questions submitted from family members. She is the author of “Cracking the Dementia Code” Creative Solutions to Cope With Changed Behaviour” and she is the co-creator of an iOS App “Dementia Caregiver Solutions”
