Mike kicked off our meeting by inviting Gary to sing O’ Canada before a enthusiastic group and Vida read the invocation.

Our guests this morning included:

Preet Pall our Assistant Governor representing Area D (Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows)
Karen Rockwell who attended her fourth and final meeting as a guest and introduced by Gary
Heather Oleskiw attended her second meeting this month and was introduced by Trudy
And Brett Stenner attended his second meeting as a guest and was introduced by Dan Dunlop
Upcoming Birthdays to celebrate include Yvonne’s husband Andy on October 22nd and Terry’s wife Susan on October 23rd

Mike presented his Rotarian making a Difference pin to a well deserved Peter Cuthbert for all his work on Rotary activities including the Rotary Store, Eagle Ridge Manor & especially Search for the Perfect Pint.

Gayle/Mike updated on the Community Grants meeting held on October 16th  and advised that about $23K was approved for 14 groups.

Coreen advised that over 40 people attended the joint clubs Polio Fundraiser Beer and a Burger held on October 12th and raised $684 for World Polio.

Mike advised us that the Langley clubs are hosting a big fundraiser on November 4th for their Wine and Food festival which is all inclusive tasking and testing for $75. Over 200 different types of local wines will be available. Hmmm sounds yummy.

50/50 ticket was drawn and the winning ticket was Peter’s, however settled for his toonie back with a close but no cigar Ace of Clubs.

Peter provided a mock-up of signage for our Rotary tent and was seeking approval. Peter recommended blue on a blue tent, however was voted for white on blue 18-1. Sorry Peter !!! LOL

George asked the club to start thinking about Student Exchange,  as he has heard from a number of students who would like to participate. We are too late for this year so future years is now the ask.

Steve was our Sergeant at Arms this week and caught a number of Rotarians off guard for not wearing their Rotary Pin resulting in additional fine revenue. Well done Steve!! and beware Rotarians for future weeks.

Our speaker Preet this week was introduced by Mike as our Assistant Governor.

Preet provided a short intro to her road to Rotary and her desire to be District Governor within 8 years.

She mentioned that while attending the International conference in Atlanta that one of her “take aways” for our Area would be Mini Projects. Typically something that could be done quickly such as in a meeting.

To our pleasant surprise she had us complete one at our meeting and it was homemade Greeting or Thank-you cards. She had a couple ideas and the group settled on the Port Moody Police Department, save one who missed the dialogue and completed for the Eagle Ridge Manor staff which was also kind. For the Police Department 32 cards in all different designs and verses were surprising well created and will be presented in the coming week.

Thanks Preet for the great idea for which she earned the Golden Spike presented by Gayle.

With that Mike adjourned the formal part of the meeting.
