Current projects:

  • Global Grant #1978588 ($55,893, GRC $8,595, District Funds $8,500)
    Learning Center in Negril, Jamaica

    This project will provide an after school learning facility for disadvantaged students and to build teacher skill sets in working with these students. Rotary Club Negril completed and sent a Needs Assessment and project proposal and is now finalizing a budget so that a Global Grant application can be completed.

  • Global Grant ($45,500, GRC $6,050)
    Global Grant Scholarship awarded by District 5790 Committee to Tesa Hargis

    This grant has been approved! With an academic focus on Peace & Conflict Resolution, Tesa will study for an MA in Human Rights at University College London. The Barkingside Rotary Club will host Tesa during her stay.

  • Global Grant #1870340 (GRC $2,000, District Funds $2,000)
    Equip Women’s Medical Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt

    This project will equip a Women’s Center in St. Takla Cardiac Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt. We will be working with Maple Valley Rotary Club on this Global Grant and we have agreed to allocate $2,000 and to request $2,000 in District Funds in support of this project.

  • Bluebonnet Grant Project ($2,400, GRC $1,200)
    3-Week Work/Study Field Trip in Latecia, Colombia
    For Global Grant Scholar Yacine Ndiaye

    Yacine will utilize this trip to explore how urbanization has transformed indigenous people’s understanding and practices around health, by gender, and to suggest creative technology solutions that may help them. This is part of her studies for her MSc in Global Health at the University of Geneva. She is one of only 7 students offered this opportunity.

  • District Grant #P-1383 ($20,000, GRC $5,000)
    Wheelchairs to Cuba

    We are gathering funds to purchase a small container of wheelchairs to ship to Cuba. Dr. Graham Sowa (a Grapevine High School graduate now practicing in Havana), working with Carritas Cuba, secured an import permit from the Cuban government for these chairs.

  • New District Grant
    GRC will receive $19,170 in District Funds, half ($9,585) to use for Global Grants and half ($9,585) to be used for District Grants at our discretion.

    The GRC Foundation Committee decided to allocate $8,500 to the Negril Learning Center GG, $2,000 to the Egyptian Women’s Health Center GG, leaving $8,670 for District Grants that GRC must match. This makes for a total of nearly $18,000 in grants that our club will utilize right here in the Grapevine community!

    • $5700 to GRACE to help restore fire-damaged medical clinic;
    • $3640 to the Grapevine Fire Dept. to support their free life-preserver program at five Grapevine Lake parks;
    • $5,250 to Grapevine Police Dept.’s Community Outreach Center for computers and building improvements;
    • $3,000 in Scholarships for GCISD Culinary Arts Students to attend the TCC Culinary Arts Program.
