Jay Wilber, Program Chair, hosted Charles Klarskov, financial adviser from Search Light Financial Inc. Mr. Klarshov began his presentation by giving the club a financial rundown of the world market. He seemed to sum it up by saying, "It's bad all over". Charles continued by giving the 7 Fundamentals of Investing illustrating the possible value in each.

1. Banks
2. Government Bonds
3. Stocks
4. Real estate
5. Insurance
6. Currency
7. Mutual Funds

He spent some time discussing the fees associated with each investment but the club gave the speaker plenty of help telling him of their strategies for making a profit. When he got to Annuities, naming the three types, Index, Fixed and Variables, he then gave his strongest pitch for "Indexed Annuities". The club's investors opened up again with a load, "Why". Cutting to the chase, he used Warren Buffet's example of 10 to 12 holdings. That's it. If anything, the program was lively!

It became clear when he ended his program and passed out evaluation cards asking for name, rank and serial number. Call him and he'll figure it out for you. Why worry, be happy!

Chizue Ouchi.............
Chizue came to the club Tuesday with several original hand made, water filled vases with flowers picked from her garden. She gave one to all of us Rotarians. Chizue is the wife of Mr. Rotary, Ed Ouchi. Eileen their daughter brings Chizue to the club and returns to take her home as you probably have noticed. This is a Rotary story that has continued for over 45 years.

We received a plea for help from a local high school senior:
HI my name is Carlos Loera and I am currently a senior at Paramount High School. I am currently treasurer for Associated Student Body, Interact Club, and Model United Nations Club. I have a great interest in serving my community and school, which all three clubs incorporate.
I am writing today to ask for your support as I attempt to raise enough money to participate in YMCA Youth and Government this year. Established in 1948, YMCA Youth and Government is a statewide model legislature and court program that educates youth on California state government procedure and practice. But, really, we’re so much more. Our motto is “Democracy must be learned by each generation.” The program allows students from across California to experience governing and various levels of leadership at the State Capitol. Students not only learn practical skills like research and writing, but also skills that extend far beyond our program: thoughtful consideration of pressing public issues, creative problem solving- even time management and a general sense of civic responsibility.
To raise money to take part in the program, my fellow delegates and I are holding fundraisers such as opportunity drawings. Unfortunately, while these opportunities help, I still have remaining financial need. Thus, I hope that you can help me. In order to pay for registration for the program this year, I will need to pay my remaining balance of $260. Any contribution is welcomed and much appreciated.
Sincerely, Carlos Loera

As a result of this letter we were able to raise $120 for Carlos.  We wish him well in his endeavors.
