(L-R) New members Maria Mac Lean and Mary Jane Villalovos gave craft talks.

Maria is the youngest of five children.  She was born in Tijuana and came to California as a baby.  She lived in Riverside for a few years then moved to Paramount at the age of five and has been here ever since.  Maria joined the Paramount Chamber of Commerce as Membership Services Director in 1999.  She enjoys helping local businesses.

Maria is a single Mom who has raised a daughter that is in her third year at CSDH working towards a career in Radiology.  Maria and her daughter love to travel and have been to Paris, Scotland, England, the Mexican Riviera, Florida, Hawaii and the Dominican Republic.

Maria is primary caregiver for her beloved 87 year old Father, Donald Mac Lean, who has several health issues.  She also helps take care of her Mother and, of course, her daughter.

She enjoys roller skating, dancing and cooking. Remaining on her "bucket list" are sky diving, zip lining, snorkeling, riding a banana boat, hot air balloon and the Goodyear Blimp.  She likes Betty Boop, the number 3 and the color black.

Maria is a dependable person who likes to help others.  She will make a fine Rotarian.
Mary Jane (not just Mary) explained that Mary was a very popular name and when she went to Kindergarten there were eight Mary's and twelve Mary's at the Catholic girls school in Montebello.  She was raised in Pico Rivera with five siblings and currentky lives in Whittier.  She attended University of Pacific where she majored in the Classics, Ex. Phys, Library Tech and Art.  She spent 12 years as a Catholic school teacher.  She has been involved with the YMCA as a part of the staff or volunteer for over 20 years.  She is currently the Director of the Los Cerritos YMCA.  She has worked in libraries since she was in Jr. High School.

Theater has been a big part of Mary Jane's life.  She has been a dresser at Musical Theater West, stage manager at Shakespeare by the Sea and freelances as light board operator and electrician.  She has sung professionally with Vox Femina and sang at the 2000 DNC.  Using her physical therapy skills, she has interned for the San Francisco 49ers and ESPN.

She loves to nap, read (usually reading four books at the same time), listen to music, workout, draw and paint.  She is an avid sports fan especially baseball and football.  She is also an aerobics instructor.

These two talented ladies are great additions to Paramount Rotary.
