Educator of the Year

The Educator of the Year (EOTY) Program celebrates its 37th year of honoring outstanding educators on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club is the sole sponsor of the program and in that role solicits support from the community to sponsor a reception and dinner to honor eleven teachers per year and to raise funds for scholarships for needy and talented students.

The Peninsula's private and public schools, as well as colleges, select their award winner and then join the community and school representatives for a celebration at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. Rotarians Joan Behrens and Jim Hartman provide leadership for a committee of active Rotarians who are deeply committed to this activity.

The participating schools include four schools annually from the Palos Verdes Unified School District, plus Chadwick School,  The College for Officer Training at Crestmont, Rolling Hills Preparatory School, Marymount College, St. John Fisher School.  The program attracts more than 300 guests that include Rotarians, the Public School Board and Principals as well as Heads of all the independent schools, teacher colleagues, friends and their families. Funds from donors for the event are used to assist students with financial need to go to college.

Each year at the event a unique or special academic program is highlighted. Past year's have highlighted the television journalism and broadcasting program at Palos Verdes High School, and Chadwick School's college counseling program.

The EOTY program is an outstanding community tribute to teaching and teachers and a way for the PVP Rotary Club and the community to raise funds to support students attending a college. Thanks to our many long time Sponsors and Supporters that include:
