Reminded us about the Educator of The Year event coming up on November 9th. They said if you want to still buy tickets to the event you should hurry up and get on it because they were going to stop ticket sales on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
OUR SPEAKER:
Our speakers Friday were our very own Bob Gulcher and Rick Mendoza.

They were introduced by    Lynne Neuman our stand-in president for the day since Allan Bond had other commitments. I think     Lynn, because Rick is a new member to our club, but certainly not new to Rotary, gave us a pretty de- tailed list of his past Rotary contributions. He was a club president in1993-1994, following that he was  club Foundation Chair for 3 years. He served as District Governor in 2002-2003, the year the “Eradicate Polio campaign began. In 2005 he was awarded the “Rotary International Citation for Meritorious Ser- vice” by The Rotary Foundation. In 2009-2012 he served a three year term as the District 5280 Rotary Foundation Chair raising over seven million dollars for the Rotary Foundation. In 2012-2015 he served Zone 26 as the Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator. In 2013-2016 he again served as club Foundation Chair bringing his club to #1 in Distric-5280 in per capita contributions at $542.31. To    top it all off in 2012 he was recognized with The Rotary Foundation’s highest award, the      “Distinguished Service Award”.
Bob led off his part of the talk with a discussion about the current Rotary magazine. He asked us if we knew who was on the cover. It was Arch Klumph. He told us that to date for the year 2016 the Rotary International Foundation has raised $300,000,000.00 in support of its many humanitarian projects around the world. The biggest is Polio eradication. He said that it will take about another $1.5 billion    and several more years to totally eradicate Polio in all the countries of the world.
Rick began his talk telling us the Rotary Foundation started out with a donation from Arch Klumph.       The amount was $26 and change. This was money that was left over at the end of the year from his Rotary club’s account. Rick told us that the International Foundation has 6 areas of focus. Clean water and Sanitation, Child and Maternal Heath, (immunizations), Micro Credit, Promoting Peace, (he told us about sending students around the worth to learn about peace and conflict resolution, Education and Literacy, Youth and Scholarships, and Polio Eradication.
Rick went on to tell us that donated money can usually be leveraged 3:1. He said the structure regard- ing the International Foundation is: Rotary International Board of Trustees/Regional Foundation Team/ District Foundation Team/and Club Foundation Team. Rick said that we had 52 Paul Harris Fellows in our club to date, that there were about 16 who were not, and the club would be willing to put up to    as much as $500 to help get those members to Paul Harris Status.
We were also told about the different levels of Rotary giving. He told us about the Paul Harris level of
giving $1,000, the Rotary Society level of giving $10,000, and the super Society level of giving
$250,000.
Bob went on to suggest that our club foundation consider giving a $200 to $300 gift to the
The Educator of The Year teachers.
He also told us about Liz Fitzgerald’s efforts to get funding for utensils for the kids at the school our club painted last year. She noticed that there were no utensils, so she approached the District Foundation about it, and they agreed to provide $1,500 in funds to purchase the necessary uten- sils the students needed.
On helping at an international level Bob told us about people who are in need of furthering edu- cation to enable them to succeed. He suggested that we could help those interested in pursuing this at a career level, receive up to a $30,000 grant to make this education a reality.
We all say thanks to Bob and Rick for their very informative and inspirational talk.
