Club Business and New Member Induction
Reported by Lynne Neuman
With no speaker scheduled for this particular meeting, there was still lots of Club business to talk about and share with the members.
  • President Allen called the meeting to order and Jim Hartman gave the invocation. John Stillo then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Both Les Fishman and Norton Donner led us in the Patriotic Song of which I cannot remember which song it was because I was so mesmerized with their duet.
  • Soon after, Marc Mazarow introduced our guests, Joe Anderson husband and Jonathan Anderson son of soon to be inducted member, Kathleen Anderson. Her son Jonathan also happens to be a fellow Rotarian of the South Bay Sunrise club.

  • Marc Mazarow talked about the success of the recent Beer and Wine Festival. Total gross income including ticket sales, silent auction and sponsors brought in approximately $113k.  It was the most successful B&W event thus far. He acknowledged and thanked all of the folks that spent so much time, effort and work to organize this event and Greg Sparkman reciprocated and acknowledged Marc for all of his efforts as well.

  • President Elect Lynne Neuman provided the following updates: District Assembly tomorrow from 7am-noon at the Carson Civic Center. Later in the month on June 23rd prior to our regular scheduled meeting will be a board meeting from 11-12 with both the incoming board and outgoing board to prepare for the New Year. Lynne acknowledged and thanked Juliet De Moss for stepping up as Community Service Chair taking over as Lauren Spiglanin whom recently resigned from the club.  She is still in need of filling two other positions, Peace Chair and La Rotacion Editor.

  • Newest Member, Kathleen Anderson was inducted by our District Governor, Greg Obrien. Kathleen was born in Chicago to a family of nine. Her parents were both involved in World War II where her father was a B-17 pilot and her mother was a Lieutenant in the Women’s Army Air Corp.

Kathleen came to California to work at Little Company of Mary Hospital where she met her husband Joe, an orthopedic surgeon whom has recently retired. They have eight children including a set of identical twins. Kathleen has quite a diverse background in cosmetology, armed security, medical office management, and flying airplanes.  She and Joe are looking forward to their next career of opening their own art gallery in Torrance within the next 4-5 months. The club stood in applause congratulating and welcoming our newest member.

  • President Allen Bond called the meeting to an end at 1:30.

That’s it for now and hope to see everyone at our next meeting on June 9th where Allen Coleman and company will talk about the history of the Foundation.
