If You Missed us Last Week July 14th

President Lynne’s second meeting started off with her opening the meeting at 12:19pm and inviting PDG Greg O’Brien to give the day’s invocation. Greg reminded us all that an invocation is a blessing before a meal - and to give thanks for the abundance before us; to give thanks for Rotary. Norton Donner led us in the flag salute, and the trio of Kjell Hellberg, Les Fishman, and Allen Bond led us in song, accompanied by Juliet DeMoss on the piano. Thank you all for volunteering!

The day’s announcements were plentiful!

It is with a heavy heart that President Lynne announced the passing of Rotary International President-elect Sam Owori. Owori passed away on July 13, 2017 after complications from surgery.

Foundation Dinner, October 28, five seats available. See Julia for details and sign up.

San Pedro’s President (visiting Rotarian) Pete Mokler announced World Polio Day – Saturday, October 21, 8am. Family tide pool walk for polio at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.

The Beer & Wine was extremely successful. A disbursement of $25,000 will go to each of the club’s involved. Mark your calendars for August 24th, at the Strand Brewery - each club will announce, and disperse, funds to their specific recipients. Our club would like to earmark some funds for international projects and the balance to be used for local projects. If you have a specific project in mind, please send your thoughts to Lynne Neuman or Marc Mazorow by July 28 for consideration.

Most important announcement of the day…The Rotary Club of Palos Verdes Peninsula is proud to have a new member, an honorary member….Mrs. Carolyn O’Brien!

A little about Jennifer

Jennifer was raised in Huntington Beach, and at 6’2” played high school basketball. She received a scholarship to play for North Colorado. As mentioned, has worked with the Y for over 25 years – and if you don’t find Jennifer at work, she’s probably at an Angels game, hanging with her dog, or playing with her 4 year old nephew! Jennifer is a volunteer with the Tournament of Roses Parade! Yep, she is one of those special white-coat volunteers! Jennifer’s favorite thing to do – go to Disneyland! Her favorite ride you may ask? Well, it’s Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride!
