Monday, January 10, Via Zoom!
by Jim McFarland
Past President Dave Gendron acted as our fearless leader as President Jordan Holbert was recovering from Covid.
Larry Johnson gave a salute to the life of John Russo. His funeral mass will be at American Martyrs on Monday, January 17, at 2 PM.
Had a brief hiccup with Zoom and the gang quickly pivoted with the help of Dave to a new Zoom call! Great job everyone. Barely skipped a beat!!
Mentioned the Alabama Georgia game Lindy Murrell will be watching at 2 PM her (New Zealand) time.
Camp Pendleton donations. Great response! Filled one truck and had to get another one…filled that one too! Bob Stephenson and Susan Adams drove one truck and Chris Ullman the second truck, and waited for Marines to unload!
Kudos to our own Captain Tim Hageman, retired after 33 years. Still feeling like he’s on a long vacation.
Discussed a few New Year’s resolutions…Bill Bloomfield wants to ski more.
Our speaker for the day was Maher Hanna with JPL.
Wonderful talk about his beginnings in Egypt, and how tennis gave him the connections to education and his first jobs, including moving to the US and schooling at USC and Caltech.
Over the years he has worked on several projects. His current project is SMAP Earth Systems Mapping.
He ended his talk with a fascinating video, Curiosity Mars Rover. Here’s a video I found https://youtu.be/P4boyXQuUIw
We are dark next Monday for MLK.
See y’all Jan 24th
