Our meeting was called to order at the Rotary Interpretive Centre with nine members in attendance (none on zoom as we don’t have wifi at RIC): Allan, Nav, Wayne, Stephen, Merle, Rudy, Nora, Leon and Anthony. Brendan sent his regrets.
Pre-meeting discussion found Merle volunteering to serve on a Ribfest committee, hearing about a cell phone with a battery about to explode being replaced by an iphone 14, and granite statues being authorized for installation beside the RIC at the Korean memorial without going through the Township for approval. Oops. We admired the fine work of Allan and his helpers as we viewed the new kitchen cupboards and countertop. Now only the microwave needs to be fastened to the wall, and locks put on a couple cupboards for our use.
We sang O Canada, “an excellent rendition” perhaps sounding even better because we were in a smaller space. Nav and Rekha will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on Jan. 21, and John and Anthony recently celebrated their January birthdays. Next week we will have an owl visiting us at Timms, so be prepared.
Rotary Interpretive Centre Update
Allan needs to put in an electrical box as the cord for the microwave will not reach to the nearest electrical outlet, and we expressed our concern that there is no wifi in the building. We will be requesting that the Township bring wifi to the RIC as it is used by many different groups who could use this service.

Other updates
We moved on to happy and sad dollars with eight of us contributing this evening. We pledged $31 for: wife helping him move the fridge and microwave; happy that Allan has done the kitchen, and happy for him to be going to Hawaii; a 62nd wedding anniversary; celebrating Chinese New Year at Brookswood Seniors Centre; having a son and daughter-in-law returning from Korea; computer sound off, needing technical attention; having family visit for two weeks with their luggage “lost” by the airline, only to find it at the Denver airport on their return trip home; happy to have had all their luggage intact on recent travels; suffering a malware attack, but now all is fine; celebrating his mother’s 81st birthday; and thanking Allan for all his hard work.
Wayne shared a Light Touch before we closed the regular meeting and moved into the executive meeting.
“My cousin Jimmy was having a terrible time falling asleep unless he was lying on a pile of old magazines. It turns out he had back issues.”
We toasted Canada and the executive meeting began. Tune in next week when President Stephen will likely share information about the decisions we made and the money we spent.
