Tonight was the last meeting with President Leon presiding, and we had more members gathering at Timms than we had joining via zoom. Wayne, Allan, Brendan, Navnit, Augustino, Stephen, Anthony, Leon and Bob were joined by AG Bev Dornan, Camryn Hofer, and Byron Cooke at our regular meeting room, and Jim See and Kadonah Davis tuned in via zoom.
Discussions on various topics: possible discount for zoom for our club (thank you to Leon for letting us use his account for two plus years); our usual hook-up difficulties, sorted out by Anthony; echo, echo, echo before being solved; and general greetings and pleasure at meeting in person.
At 7:04 O Canada was played and sung to open our meeting. Announcements: RI President-Elect Jennifer Jones will be attending a meet and greet event at White Rock on July 10th (she will be our president effective July 1st); an apples in October event is seeking sponsorship; we are invited to have a tour of Foundry Langley before their official opening; the Nicomekl Enhancement Society traded in the tractor we purchased for them for a larger model, and received a $14 000 trade-in allowance on the tractor we’d purchased for $15 000 years ago (Kubota had a buyer for the holey tractor -- if you were at the meeting you would understand).
Scholarship Recipient - Camryn Hofer
Wayne introduced Camryn Hofer, our scholarship winner from Langley Secondary School, and Camryn told us a little about herself. From a young age she excelled in her academics and athletics. She started participating in cheerleading when she was six years old and just finished her final season, and hopes to further her passion for the sport by trying out for the SFU cheer team. She also coaches at her cheer gym, teaching students as young as five. She has volunteered for the past five years, and is eager to begin her studies at SFU, commuting from her parents’ home in Langley.
Before Camryn left the meeting for another engagement, Leon presented her with a cheque for $1500, making her the first student this year to receive her scholarship funds. A photo of the occasion is attached.

Continuing The Mission
Our Rotary year is almost over, but the continuing mission of The Rotary Foundation never ends. The programs of the Rotary Foundation are for present and future needs – educational programs, medical assistance programs, community assistance and development programs, and disaster response programs – all to improve the lives of the people of the world.
Thank you for your support of The Rotary Foundation programs and allowing “the good work” of Rotary to continue. We should be proud of our accomplishments as this has been an amazing year in particular for our support for Ukraine and our continued efforts to End Polio Now.
What can a donation to The Rotary Foundation accomplish?
Leon then called on PDG Wayne to conduct the installation of our new executive team. Wayne deferred (out-sourced?) to our new AG Bev Dornan, a member of the Rotary Club of Aldergrove, to install all members of the executive except the president. Which she did, some in absentia. Our club executive for next year includes Past President Leon Jensen, Vice President Allan Richmond, Secretary Bob Lukie, Treasurer Anthony Ball, and Directors Jim See, Nora Truman, Rudy Storteboom, Wayne Wiebe, John Brynjolfson, and Veronica Lopez. Missing is a volunteer to serve as President Elect. Who would like this prestigious position?
Wayne then returned to the front to properly install Stephen Richardson as our new president. This is the third time Wayne has performed this installation for Stephen, and he reminded Stephen that he now has been given a third opportunity to get this president thing right. Wayne quoted Past RI President Cliff Dochterman’s well known speech “If I Could Be President Again” to give Stephen advice on how to handle the coming year. After Stephen took his oath of office, we congratulated the new executive members and thanked them for taking on these responsibilities. In a brief address to the club Stephen mentioned that we are a small club but a mighty club, and he looks forward to a good year.

Announcements: Join RI President Jennifer Jones at the White Rock beach near the pier on Sunday, July 10 from 9:30-2:30. Ribfest is looking for volunteers and you can volunteer online. Our club is sharing a location with the Langley Sunrise Club to sell 50/50 tickets. This weekend it is at Save On Foods on 64 Avenue and we have Bob on the first shift and Allan and Rudy on the second shift on Saturday. Brendan has volunteered to work the second shift on Sunday. Langley Sunrise will fill in the empty spaces.

We closed with a toast to Canada and wished each other a good evening. We may not have a zoom link next week as Leon will have left on an extended vacation. The club is looking into purchasing a zoom website for our own use. Come down to Timms to join the fun in person!
