Tonight Brendan, Nav, Merle, Anthony, Nora and Stephen met at the Timms Centre with Wayne, Leon and Kadonah Davis joining via zoom. Regrets were received from Rudy and Bob. Conversations included experiencing a tornado in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. The arena Leon was parked behind had its roof blown off. He reported that with the lower price of wine in France, he could save enough on his wine budget to pay his mortgage. He also noted that gas prices in Europe are no longer higher than the prices here. A curious thing is that the prices of bread are posted for all to see, and a baguette cost about $1.
Stephen called the meeting to order at 7:17. I’m not sure how well O Canada was sung at Timms, but it sounded quite good at my house. Our two guests, Merle Fisher and Kadonah Davis, were welcomed. With yet another week without a quorum, the executive meeting was postponed to November 3rd.
We talked about Council of Legislation resolutions and heard that the hoped-for Interact Club at R.E. Mountain would not be forming, as the students interested had already formed another club without any outside assistance. We discussed the possibility of approaching secondary schools with Interact information to see if some students might be interested in this opportunity for service.
We talked about funding requests and Stephen told about the housing units being built in Langley, mostly in the Willoughby area, and the higher birth rate there.

This was followed by The Light Touch, with the focus this week being on marriage humour. Three jokes were shared, including one explaining why a woman needs a husband. The third one went like this.
We moved on to happy and sad dollars with eight people contributing. These were for: the weather forecast saying rain would start on Friday; not being entirely happy with the recent municipal election results; cheering for the BC Lions to break their losing streak in Edmonton by extending the Elks’ home game loss record; Rudy and Rebecca not elected to council; us paying $1000 per week for the Prime minister’s groceries; the wonderful presentation from Stephen, and for being late to the meeting; Marina’s bravery and news of life in Russia; Brendan’s taxi service; the presentation and seeing the beautiful buildings; and Brendan possibly not being able to step down as LRCCF president.
We closed with a toast to Canada and wished each other a good evening. While hybrid meetings will continue, we welcome more members to attend in person again.
