Tonight’s meeting was a little different than usual, as Stephen was called away to assist his father shortly before our meeting started. We talked about the art display at the Timms Centre, getting a timepiece repaired for $800, working for five hours setting up things for Ribfest (way to go, Allan), and exchanging email addresses. VP Allan called the meeting to order and we sang O Canada. Rudy lustily contributed his high tenor (not) voice to make sure I didn’t omit him from the list of singers this week (sorry about the omission in the last RoteNotes), and he was joined by Allan, Anthony and Wayne at Timms and Lana, Nora, and Gertrude from their homes. “Amen. Good singing,” stated an anonymous member. Kadonah joined the meeting via zoom soon after, and president Stephen arrived in time for our happy/sad bucks sharing.
Lana would like members to let her know if they will be attending the BBQ Social at the Brynjolfson residence on August 20, and if so, do you want a steak ordered for you, and what pot luck item will you bring. Allan is looking for a wheelchair to use for bringing Les to the event.
Nora told us about the Nicomekl Enhancement Society picnic and a special Canada quiz they’d had. Salmon and roast pig were on the menu, so it was quite a picnic. She also spoke about Blaaue Forest in North Langley (8640 257A Street) with beautiful nature trails and a boardwalk over the bog. She said it was kind of like an enchanted forest with large trees and ferns. Trinity Western University students serve as caretakers of this ecoforest. When you visit, you need to park on the side of the road, and you are likely to see crows, starlings and swifts.
We talked about Dale Ball Park (named after Anthony’s father) and its frisbee golf, pond and picnic area. It sounds like a pleasant place to visit. We know that Allan, Rudy, Wayne (and his granddaughter), Nora and Gertrude have signed up to volunteer at Ribfest, and hope to see more club members there. Ribfest will feature ribbers, of course, but also has a large kidzone, a stage with entertainment, several concession vendors including soft ice cream and lemonade, the Rotary Cookhouse and Rotary Tavern, plus many more tents and attractions.

Other updates
Happy and sad dollars for Polio Plus were donated for: being happy to be with other Rotarians; good seeing each other and sad about her husband’s poor health; having a good day setting up at Ribfest; our meeting and anticipation of Ribfest; celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary tomorrow; and for Wayne’s anniversary, helping his father on short notice and the exemplary service our club provides, supporting each other.
We closed with a toast to Canada and wished each other a good evening. We will continue with hybrid meetings, and encourage more members to attend in person again.
P.S. No news yet about the availability of Rotary Interpretive Centre so plan on meeting at Timms on the 18th.
