Rotary Club of Langley

RoteNotes for December 8, 2022
Hybrid meetings...
  Ten adults, one child and one dog attended the meeting at Timms.  Allen, John, Stephen, Anthony, Rudy, Merle, Byron, Nora and Brendan were joined by guests Tony Ward and Zosia Ettenberg.  Brielle Ball and Gladstone also attended, while Lana and Wayne tuned in via zoom.

  It was impossible to hear the pre-meeting conversations from home, so no gossip for you this time.  I did hear someone mention that Kadonah Davis had joined the Langley Central satellite club.  It’s good to see that she has found a Rotary home suitable for herself.

  President Stephen called the meeting to order at 7:03 and we sang O Canada.  “Very good. Thank you.”

  Allan is still having difficulties getting ahold of the right people for getting approval for the installation of the kitchen cabinets in the Rotary Interpretive Centre.  Now he’s trying to put the IKEA units together in his workshop and transport them to install.  Our Christmas party is a go for December 11 with twenty people indicating attendance.  Allan says the restaurant has everything under control and we should arrive at his house at 4:45 p.m.  Our speaker next week when we meet at RIC will be Rudy’s guest,Tony Ward, a SD#35 trustee.

  Allan hasn’t met with Jared yet re. the possible $1000 grant but plans to do so next Monday.  We would like to assist with Christmas hampers this year and Nora has agreed to be our club’s contact person for this.  We are not yet sure just what our involvement might be.
Langley Pos-Abilities
   Nora then introduced Zosia who shared a powerpoint presentation about Langley Pos-Abilities with us. This organization is working to make things more accessible for those with mobility issues and has a number of good programs,  It is easier to include some of the screenshots which share the information than to type out what they say.  For the full set of slides, call Wayne.
Other updates
  As time was marching on, the Foundation Moment was postponed until next week.  Stephen then conducted the first call for nominations for next year’s executive.  Nominated tonight for the following positions were;

President:  Rudy Storteboom
President-Elect:
Vice President:  Allan Richmond
Secretary:  Bob Lukie
Treasurer:  Anthony Ball
Director:  Sonia Gill, Nora Truman, Leon Jensen, John Brynjolfson, Merle Fisher Boonij, and Wayne Wiebe
Past President:  Stephen Richardson

  We then moved on to happy and sad dollars with seven people donating for: Zosia’s excellent presentation (multiple times); Marina’s bravery;
working at LMH in the past; environmental reasons and counting birds; and just a wish to contribute. We closed as usual with a toast to Canada.

  Next week we meet at RIC and since no wifi is available there, we will not be having a hybrid meeting. Come out and meet in person!
