Hybrid meetings...

Tonight we had two meetings: our regular meeting with our AGM sandwiched in the middle. Gertrude, Wayne, Rudy, Bob, Nora, Merle, Micheal, Anthony, Victoria and Leon were joined by guests Dave Lee, David Shin, Margaret Carly and Wayne Crossen.

Following the land acknowledgement, information about our club, and O Canada (Excellent singing) we welcomed our guests. Regrets were received from John.

Rudy announced that the Aldergrove Rotary Club had joined with us in sponsoring Cards for Seniors (3100 cards); that the RIC meeting schedule for 2024 had been approved by the Township; we have been asked to sponsor a family through the Christmas Bureau (last year 835 families with over 1800 chlldren were assisted); we have enough volunteers for the Food Drive to be held at WalMart on Saturday the 16^th from noon to five; and that the RCoLC is hosting a breakfast with Santa at Douglas Park on the morning of December 9th from eight to eleven o’clock.

Rotary Club of Langley Annual General Meeting

Rudy asked Wayne to chair the AGM which proceeded smoothly. Wayne reported on the status of our scholarships, our groups of five, and on happy and sad dollars donations. No reports were received from the other directors. Dave Lee, Senior Wealth Advisor, shared our financial situation regarding our investment fund which now has a value of $1 780 969.00! On January 1, 3013 the value was $1 667 225.00 and since then $1 139 606.00 has been paid to the Rotary bank account. The performance of the portfolio since January 1, 2013 has been +6.62% per year.

Anthony advised that this year’s budget figures followed those of last year with few changes. As always, funds may be moved from one allocation to another depending upon the spending decisions made be the executive during the year.

This week’s offering was perhaps related to a nostalgic memory of rubber boots work on the dairy farm as a child, and drew a mixed response.

Other updates

Happy and Sad Dollars were donated for: the joke, and for our great financial situation; a great AGM and the honour to be elected PE; happy not to be elected VP; having five women directors (for the first time in the club’s history); and having all executive positions filled for next year.

We shared a toast to Canada and then we packed up. See you next week at Timms!
