The Gibsons Rotary Club launched its 1500/$20 Crowdfunding Campaign last week to raise $30,000, the equivalent of 1500 $20 bills. The funds will be used to build an Early Childhood Education Center in Taweni, South Africa. The school will be located in the same village where the club delivered 60 hippo water rollers last year.

It was decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign– rather than staging an event– so more people could get involved with the project. Supported by a social media page, donors will be able to watch the school being built and meet the kids who will attend.

“The idea of breaking the fundraising into $20 bills makes the campaign more attractive," said Helen Macham, a Rotarian with the club. “1500 $20 bills break the project into manageable pieces and small enough so that everyone can participate."

To make it even more attractive, for every $20 donated, the club will match it with $20, so donors will double the impact of their donation.

“Rotary clubs are very active with community projects on the Coast," added Macham. “This project is particularly exciting because it's part of our global vision to serve and make a difference.”

The school will be the ninth in a network of Early Childhood Development schools operating in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa that delivers educational opportunities to impoverished rural communities.
