Which of our members said this, “That’s my reality – I like weird things.”
A)Larry Garces
B) Mel Sanchez
C) John Lacey
D) none of the above.
While a, b, and c might be right, d is the answer. It was said by our speaker, Matt Wilson of Servpro, who also said, “I hope you never have to see me,” and “I belong to the most unethical profession in the world.”
Intrigued? Servpro is a franchisor of fire and water cleanup and restoration franchises in the United States and Canada. It provides localized services as well as large-scale disaster recovery, so Matt has worked on the Pentagon after it was hit on 9-11, and Small World in Disneyland. Don’t ask about that one.
“When something super weird happens, and you ask yourself, who in the world could handle this – that’s when you call us,” said Matt.
Not many of us have a profession ordained in the Bible, but the need for Matt’s services is as old as the Torah. Matt quoted Leviticus 14 33-53, “If the defiling mold appears, the priest is to go and examine it and, if the mold has spread in the house, it is a persistent defiling mold; the house is unclean. It must be torn down—its stones, timbers and all the plaster—and taken out of the town to an unclean place.”
As a Field Training Manager/IICRC Instructor at Servpro, Matt has seen a lot of mold and defilement. In an unrelated moment, John Lacey asked Matt if he would like to join our club. Matt’s answer could not be interpreted as positive or negative.
Mike Pohlen said that he isn’t talented at anything in particular, but he does seem able to grow things. This year’s crop of Valencia oranges on the Pohlen ranch has been one of the best ever, and Mike is offering two-liter jugs of freshly squeezed juice for $10, the proceeds to go toward the Club’s donation for next week’s speaker. There will be a few more containers sold then. “IF you like orange juice,” said Mike, “there is nothing better.”
