This Past Tuesday, August 9, 2022
This week, we welcomed Rotarian Luz Perez, who provided the club with a snapshot of TLC for 2021-2022.
TLC processed 1552 District-wide referrals this year
45 students without insurance and high need were provided with weekly counseling
44 McKinney Vento students were referred to TLC for support
37 students received weekly grief counseling through the TLC Cares Grief Group
326 families were provided support for food insecurity
419 students received holiday support
613 students were examined and received glasses through TLC's collaboration with Vision to Learn
TLC took 61 students from Warren, Downey, and Columbus High School shopping for clothing
Pictured above is Luz with backpacks and school supplies for students in need, all donated by Rotarians. The support TLC receives from Downey Rotary is incredible! Or should I say, AMAZING!

What Has Your Past President Been Up To?
Some of you might have been wondering where past president Jesse has been. Some of you, probably John Lacey, didn't even notice he was gone.
Well, he has been in Alaska.
Jesse's travels began with a remote helicopter drop fishing float trip to driving to Seward for Halibut and beyond to Homer for a cruise.

rotary august 9 spotlight on gratitude
a week ago friday
i tripped and fell in my parking lot
luckily my neighbor was driving by and
he picked me up and then
my son jeff took me to the e r at downey pih hospital
daughter carrie came up the next day from laguna niguel
i have a broken left arm and 5 stitches
over my left eye where my sunglasses cut me
and i look like rocky the raccoon
i cant use my left hand - its in a soft splint-
can't manage the capital shift key
so i am typing like archie the cockroach
anyone remember archie and mehitabel the cat
i am so fortunate
it wasn’t my right hand
the neighbor was right there
the injuries could have so much worse
i feel not just lucky
i feel blessed
