Mouth-watering chocolate cupcakes on a white pedestal and a tray of chocolate chip cookies greeted Rotarians when they entered the dining room, enticements for an auction to be put on by the Downey High School Interact Club.

The Interact officers were well dressed and well-prepared for their take-over of our meeting.  During the opening ceremonies they added a Happy Birthday song for Paul “I quit” Mathys.”

We Downey Rotarians appreciate being offered home-made baked goodies, that are tastefully arranged, when we are being asked to part with our money to fund an Interact Club’s service projects.  These goods looked so delicious that the opening bid for the first item, a chocolate bundt cake glazed with fudge icing, clearly topped all expectations.

Before the auction however, the Interact President, Grace, acted as Fine Master.  Grace knew her stuff: Jorge Montero was fined for not having a Letter to the Editor in this week in the Downey Patriot.  All those not wearing their club badge or Rotary pin were fined, and Patricia Megallon was recognized not once but twice for her help in getting the program organized.

The baked goods were then displayed, and the chocolate cupcakes with white frosting and red foil kisses topped the price war.  Grace acted as auctioneer. Also popular were the homemade chocolate cupcakes decorated with miniature oreo cookies perched in dark swirls of chocolate topping.

There were vanilla cupcakes too with colorful sprinkles in the white icing, and a pineapple upside down cake, all of which were quickly bought by club members.  Most unusual and saved for last was the chocolate cake with the Happy Face in the icing decoration.

Thanks to Patricia Megallon for working with the Downey High Interact Club  we enjoyed it and Interact made money.
