What’s new, and who’s in charge?  Our Club Assembly gave us some previews of President Russell Skersick’s year-to-come.

Thanking immediate Past-President Will Medina for giving him “a great year to follow,” President Russell admitted to being both “excited and nervous.”  He then introduced the officers and board members who will help him lead our club.

First came President-Elect Alex Lopez, who said his emphasis would be to get everyone involved.  Alex plans to do that by offering more socials and more family-oriented events.

Vice-President Anne Ullstrom was not present, but Secretary Barbara Lambreth came up next and said she would encourage attendance by sending out more early reminders of upcoming club and District events.  That, plus announcements in the weekly Hubbub, should bring more smiling faces to our luncheon meetings and socials.

Rich Strayer handles the International Service projects, and said he expected Wayne Wilcox will lead several trips to the Dental Clinic in Mulege, Baja California.   District 5280 is planning a humanitarian trip January 25-30, 2017 to Merida, Mexico, and Diane Davis has been leading trips with supplies to Tijuana. And our club will continue with the Guatemala Literacy Project, which Rich now also heads.  Last year we gave $2,500 and we are considering supporting the GLP with even a larger financial donation in the coming year.

Paul Mathys gave the Treasurer’s report, and said our club is on track for another successful fiscal year.  That is, we are raising enough money to support our socials and our service projects, which include our club’s signature project, the Arc (over $25,000 yearly, through the Golf Tournament), plus the Fishing Derby for Arc clients; the Downey Family YMCA ($3,000 per the famous Pancake Breakfast); and many important smaller local ones like our Needy Children’s Christmas Party, and international projects, including the $2,500 -possibly $5,000 -donation to the GLP; plus RI’s ongoing Polio Plus. A copy of the itemized proposed Club Budget will be published in a forthcoming Hubbub.

Paul asked that if anyone has a problem with a perceived discrepancy in a billing, to contact him right away.  Six months later makes it too hard to track down the details.  So, Paul asked that this policy be published in the Hubbub: if members do not respond with a question within 60 days of billing, it will then be too late for adjustments or changes to be made.

President Russell stressed that for the coming year he would like to see members become more engaged.
