City of Carson Autism Awareness Day & 5K Run/Walk 2018

The City of Carson will be holding its annual Autism Awareness 5K on April 7, 2018.  Please come to learn about how the event got started, as well as its challenges and successes, and how it positively impacts the community.

Eileen Malumaleumu is the Assistant program Coordinator for the City of Carson Therapeutic Recreation program. She was employed by the City of Carson part-time from 1992-2001 and began working in the Therapeutic Recreation program (formerly: Special Needs Program) in 1995. In 2001 Eileen became the full-time Assistant Coordinator of the program, which is the position she holds at present.  The Therapeutic Recreation program is designed to meet the recreational, social, and physical needs of individuals with disabilities. Their activities and events have an emphasis on quality programming, inclusion, and skill building. The annual Autism Awareness Day is one event that the Therapeutic Recreation program provides to the community.
