The mission of this Earth Day event is to encourage attendees to think a bit more deeply about the state of our planet and what we, as individuals and as a community, can do about it. The fair will consist of activities and exhibits aimed at providing environmental education and awareness to the community. The day’s events will include: educational resource booths from local vendors and organizations, hands-on children’s activities, docent-led museum and garden tours, a composting workshop, as well as educational talks from exhibitors and members of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. Local food vendors will also be on site. This is an all ages event that is free and open to the public. Events like this are a fun way to bring our community together and to inspire us to be more mindful of the well-being of this planet that we all call home.

Since Maternal and Child Health is the Rotary International theme for April, The Rotaract District Board is putting on a two-part event with the first being a fundraiser at an LA Clippers game which will benefit the non-profit Days for Girls and the second part is a day of service to volunteer with Days For Girls. Days for Girls is a nonprofit organization that increases access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating social entrepreneurs, mobilizing volunteers, and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls. For more information on Days for Girls, please visit: https://www. We will be assembling kits that will be sent out to women all over all over the world that receive services from Days For Girls. Some of the roles for this service opportunity include ironing fabric that has been washed, but needs to be pressed for cutting, pinning narrow liners to wide liners, cutting liners, putting snaps on shields, threading ribbon through bags, folding/rolling underwear & washcloths, quality checking shields, sewing liners/bags/shields, and putting kits together. To find out more information about Days For Girls, view their mission statement here: https://www. For more information on the volunteer opportunity, please email rotaractla.5280@gmail. |

A moment or a Movement? As directed by Rotary International and as promised by your District 5280 Peace Promotion Committee, DEI is a movement that will have to continue not only in our clubs but in all aspects of our lives. Last year District 5280 hosted several two-hour sessions that provided a platform for members to be heard and to learn how collectively and individually we could raise our awareness of racism, address past wrongs and forge a new way forward together within the paradigm of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access. The District Peace Promotion Committee has updated its DEI presentation and invites district members to again engage in these critical peace conversation. The next session will be on Saturday May 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To engage the widest audience, the session will be held remotely via Zoom. It will include a presentation and facilitated discussions. Even if you participated in the prior sessions, please plan to attend on May 7 for new, enlightening information and engaging conversation with fellow Rotarians. Let’s ensure DEI remains an integral aspect of how we do Rotary and in our daily lives. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0kcOCvqDosEt3xHa8tNbNxzCM0DXxeXpWR . We look forward to seeing on May 7 Mark Ameli, Peace Promotion Chair |

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines for the 19th Annual Rotary Grand Prix. In the world of motorsports, making decisive moves, having a good ride and using smart tactics often adds up to a victory. The Rotary Grand Prix sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carson Gardena Dominguez is much more than a go-kart race. It is an evening of fellowship and fun combined with a fundraising event to support community projects to improve the lives of children and families, promote educational opportunities, support economic development and address environmental challenges.
