Heavy Equipment Day!

Heavy Equipment Day is back, and will be held Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at Grant’s Plaza (Western Auto-Marine parking lot.) Children will be allowed to climb aboard pieces of heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, excavators and bulldozers, accompanied by professional operators, and get to operate the gears themselves.

The Juneau Rotary Club, with assistance from the Mendenhall Flying Lions Club and the International Union of Operating Engineers, are bringing back Heavy Equipment Day after a ten-year hiatus. The event costs $5 for a ride on three pieces of moving equipment. Additionally, there will be several pieces of stationary equipment for kids to explore, and a dirt pile stocked with digging toys, that will be free.

The last Heavy Equipment Day was in 2003. Leading this year’s effort is Sarah Griffith. Griffith is a member of the Family Action Committee of the Juneau Rotary Club, and works at Elgee Rehfeld Mertz. She has been receiving valuable guidance from Rob Rehfeld, the event’s original visionary.

This event is made possible thanks in part to the generous donations of local organizations, including the International Union of Operating Engineers and Western Auto Marine.
