King St BreweryWe had a great turnout at King St Brewery for our first evening meeting! We had Hillside members and spouses, visiting Rotarians and potential new members in attendance. The tour was very interesting and we learned a lot about beer making and the brewery business in Anchorage. We need a volunteer to chose a location for the February evening meeting on the 28th. This can be any venue of your choosing. |

Airport Field TripAnchorage Hillside Rotary members enjoyed a fabulous backstage tour of Anchorage International Airport as a our second field trip of this year. From Airport Manager John Parrot, we learned just how unique our airport is in terms of location, cargo flow and economic impact on our community. Many thanks to member Teri Lindseth for arranging this.

President's Message - Aug 7Many thanks for the thoughtful comments and suggestions shared by all at our club assembly last week. The health and structure of our club is improved when we get frustrations out on the table, look for solutions where we fall short and celebrate the strengths that we have. A few things I took away were:
After the close of our formal meeting, I noticed the ladies of the club held an “after party.” They are planning their own retreat. Wonderful things come when Hillside Rotarians get together outside the regular meetings. I encourage you to find something you are passionate about and invite a group in our club to share that passion. I never knew how much I loved to bike until the annual Hillside Rotarian “bike ride” began.
Light Up Rotary

Club Field Trip To Beacon Hill House 7/3/14Thursday morning, July 3, 2014, Beacon Hill Founder Charity Carmody welcomed members of Anchorage Hillside Rotary and Anchorage South Rotary on a field trip to Beacon Hill’s newly renovated space at 440 West 3rd Ave. in downtown Anchorage. Charity Carmody is a Past President of Anchorage Hillside Rotary and has a passion for helping foster children and other children in need of assistance in our community. Beacon Hill provides space for visitation between children who have been removed from the custody of their parents by the State and the parents. The goals include reunification of families, where appropriate, and providing parents links to community members who can model good parenting skills and lend a neighborly hand in a time of need. Anchorage South Rotary and Anchorage Hillside Rotary have committed to providing financial and other support to Beacon Hill. |
